LD Tuttle is a collection of footwear that focuses on movement, an idea that shoes should be about the wearer. The shoes begin as traditional shapes, building on lasts that put comfort first and morph into unique forms through innovative twists and reveals. Raw frameworks allow the beauty of the leather to shine through- bringing minimal and organic elements together.
Each shoe is hand crafted in Italy by third generation artisans using soft materials that lend themselves to providing comfort and adaptability in the modern woman's lifestyle. Adhering to a utilitarian ethos and never dictated by trend, LD Tuttle shoes become an extension of the woman who wears them.
LD Tuttle was founded in Los Angeles in 2006 by designer Tiffany Tuttle. The studio is located in the Arts District in Downtown Los Angeles.
About Tiffany Tuttle
As a former professional ballerina, Tiffany Tuttle has a long history of focusing on the relationship between feet and movement and how they extend into footwear. Tiffany's love of dance remains a continuous element in her designs.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Tiffany often draws inspiration from the city itself. The abundant light and space there are both integral to her work. "I think of Los Angeles as a place of high contrasts and try to bring that into the collection" says Tuttle.
Tiffany attended F.I.T. for design, afterwards working for Givenchy in Paris and Rebecca Taylor in New York. While working on runway shoes, she discovered a passion for designing shoes. She moved to Milan in 2004 to attend the shoe school Ars Sutoria, specializing in footwear design and pattern making.
Tiffany remains hands on in every aspect of LD Tuttle shoes, from sketching and hand draping new silhouettes to understanding the entire technical process through her extensive time spent at the factory in Italy. She has a deep personal relationship with the artisans there and a great appreciation for the time honored processes.
Before turning to fashion professionally, Tiffany received a degree in European History from Princeton University. She has an admitted obsession with medieval history- along with unicorns and crystals- and a love for historical novels that subtly, often humorously, find their way into LD Tuttle collections along with other influences of visual culture, art, and architecture.
Since launching LD Tuttle in 2006, Tiffany has collaborated with a number of designers on their runway shoes including Helmut Lang, Victoria Bartlett for VPL, Peter Pilotto, Matthew Ames, Mandy Coon, Doo.ri and Creatures of Comfort.
Tiffany lives in Los Angeles with her husband Richard Lidinsky and their two children.
